How to sign a PDF on your phone without printing it

Updated: 2026-10-18

A practical guide to signing contracts and forms from a smartphone, and what an electronic signature is worth.

What you need

Only the PDF and your phone. No printer, no scanner and no account: you can sign in the browser or in the DocuMaster app.

Create your signature

You have three options: draw it with your finger on the screen, type your name and choose a handwriting font, or photograph your real signature on white paper. The photo option gives the most natural result because the background is removed automatically.

Place it on the document

Open the PDF, tap where the signature should go, then move and resize it. Add the date and your initials on other pages if the document requires it.

Save and send

Save the signed PDF and share it by email or messaging apps. If the document is a form, flatten it so the fields and the signature cannot be changed by the recipient.

Is it legally valid?

A signature added this way is a simple electronic signature. In the EU (eIDAS regulation) and in many other countries it is accepted for a wide range of private agreements, receipts and forms. Some acts, such as certain public deeds, require a qualified digital signature based on a certificate.

Keep your signature safe

Your saved signature stays only on your device and is never uploaded. Do not send the image of your signature by itself and sign only documents you have read completely.
